THIS SUMMER ISSUE of Inuktitut magazine travels across Inuit Nunangat. In our cover feature you’ll find a success story that merges Inuit self‐determination with food security, thanks to an Inuvik‐based country food processing plant. Also from the West, we’ll hear the firsthand account of an Inuvialuit wildfire fighter who battled one of the many blazes that raged through the Northwest Territories in 2023.

We check in with Inuk pop culture star Elisapie Isaac about her tour and latest album, as well as opera singer Deantha Edmunds who shares her journey to revitalize Nunatsiavut’s tradition of choral music.

Also in these pages, ITK President Natan Obed sets aside politics to speak on his love of hockey and his growing collection of hockey cards.

Each story in this issue appears in a regionally appropriate dialect of Inuktut that has been transliterated into syllabics as well as roman orthography, using the Inuktut Qaliujaaqpait writing system. Inuktut Qaliujaaqpait was developed by Inuit experts over seven years to provide a unified writing system for Inuit, by Inuit. It was adopted by ITK’s Board of Directors in 2019.

We hope you’ll enjoy the rich tales of creativity, strength, and excellence woven throughout this latest issue of Inuktitut magazine.
