Natan Obed has been re-elected as President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami at ITK’s Annual General Meeting in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

The President of ITK is elected through a democratic governance process that represents all Inuit in Canada. Votes in the Presidential Election are cast by the designated Member Representatives of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, Makivvik and the Nunatsiavut Government, in addition to two delegates designated by each Inuit Treaty Organization, and the Vice-President of ITK.

Natan Obed is from Nain, Nunatsiavut. Obed was first elected as ITK President in 2015; this will be his fourth term as ITK President.

As per ITK’s Bylaws, the term of the President is four years.

Obed was sworn in as President and officially closed the Annual General Meeting, hosted September 18 at the Kitikmeot Inuit Association Boardroom in Cambridge Bay.
