ITK Statement on Kalaallit Nunaat

January 23, 2026 — Ottawa, Ontario

Inuit across Canada stand in solidarity with our fellow Inuit in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) who have said unequivocally that they seek to determine their own future in the face of threats from the United States to buy or invade their country.

Inuit are one people separated by colonial borders. We live in Canada, Greenland, the United States and Russia. We have inhabited this land, which we call Inuit Nunaat, since time immemorial. We share a common culture and language and are the most knowledgeable about the issues affecting our communities, regions and society.

An attack on the sovereignty of Kalaallit Nunaat is an attack on us all. The constructive arrangements Inuit have entered into with nation states are expressions of our self-determination and sovereignty.

We call on all nations, including our NATO allies to unequivocally support Inuit in Greenland in determining their own future.
