Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami hosted its Board of Directors meeting in Cambridge Bay on September 17, followed by its Annual General Meeting September 18, where Directors and Delegates renewed their commitment to uphold Inuit rights and self-determination through shared priorities.

Board members heard updates on the development of Inuit Nunangat University, including progress towards its future governance, efforts toward the creation of legislation, academic programming and next steps required to launch the university by 2030.

Board members also discussed Nutrition North Canada, expressing the need to continue advocacy efforts for program transparency while working to develop a guiding framework to ensure future work to reform the program is based on Inuit solutions that will meaningfully address food insecurity in Inuit Nunangat.

Directors allocated $13.58 million from the Youth Mental Health Fund to Inuit Treaty Organizations over the next four years by way of ITK’s general funding allocation formula.

AGM Delegates heard updates on the status of the implementation of An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families and efforts to support Inuit in the exercise of their inherent jurisdiction over child and family services. Delegates also acknowledged the Qanuippitaa? National Inuit Health Survey’s significant milestone this year in completing data collection across Inuit Nunangat for the first round of the survey.

During the September 18 AGM, ITK awarded Diana Neill-Anawak, speech language therapist from Nunavut, the 2025 Award for Inuit Excellence.

ITK also released its 2024-2025 Annual Report which contains the organization’s 2024-2025 financial statements along with highlights of ITK’s strategic work over the past year and progress made through the Inuit Crown Partnership Committee.

ITK’s 2026 AGM will be held in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik.
