U.S. President Donald Trump has used Denmark’s defence underinvestment in Greenland as an excuse for threatening to occupy Greenland for security reasons. ITK President Natan Obed says that same excuse could be used to threaten Arctic sovereignty in Canada.
“I do worry about that case being made against Inuit Nunangat and Canada so the best thing we can do to counter that is to invest in our homeland, invest in our communities, invest in our people.”
