MANGILALUK

AFTER RUNNING AWAY from residential school, Bernard Andreason and his two best friends began a stressful 130‐ kilometre journey from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk. Bernard was the only one to survive.

Mangilaluk, a 2023 graphic memoir written by Andreason and illustrated by Alan Gallo, recounts Andreason’s time in residential school and his journey into adulthood, where he is haunted by his past and struggles to find his place in the world. His story shows us that the possibility of finding a safe and loving home exists, and it is something every child deserves.
